Find St. Tammany Parish Residents From One Solid Clue
The best starting record depends on what is already known. A street address belongs first in the parish GIS and Assessor search. A name plus ZIP can go to the Louisiana voter portal. An instrument or case number belongs with the Clerk of Court. A historical town and year point toward the parish library catalog, newspapers, census material, and archived voter registrations. Each route in the St. Tammany Parish residents directory produces a lead with its own date and limits.
Official sources do not form a complete household list. The assessment roll names an owner, not necessarily an occupant. Voter data omits people who are not registered and withholds protected fields. A directory captures publication-time information. Preserve the record number, date, address label, and custodian, then seek an independent match.
- Write down the exact name, address, ZIP, date, case number, or assessment number already in hand.
- Choose the custodian whose record type can answer the question, rather than running the name everywhere.
- Search the official index and save the displayed identifier, record date, jurisdiction, and status.
- Confirm the candidate through a different record family, such as an assessment paired with a deed.
- When the portal fails, call the counter or submit a narrow Louisiana Public Records Law request.
The Offices Behind St. Tammany Parish Resident Records
Louisiana divides resident-linked records by function. The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court keeps land instruments, court files, successions, marriages, recording records, and archives. The Assessor maintains the parcel roll and GIS connection. The Registrar of Voters and Secretary of State handle registration and district data. Covington is the full-service records center, while Slidell has east-parish counters with some routing limits. Detailed address work belongs in the St. Tammany Parish street directory.

Search the St. Tammany Parish Assessment Roll With the Right Field
The Assessor portal opens on Assessment Number, the strongest key for returning to the same parcel. The official FAQ also documents searches by owner, physical address, mailing address, care-of name, and property description. These fields are not interchangeable. Situs identifies the parcel location; mailing and care-of fields show where a tax notice goes. The 2025 certified roll and current 2026 information must also be read with their displayed roll status.
| Assessment search key | Best use in the directory | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment Number | Return to one known parcel | Number and roll year |
| Owner | Find parcels held by a person or entity | Name exactly as shown |
| Physical Address | Connect a street number to a parcel | Situs label and legal description |
| Mailing or Care Of | Explain tax-delivery information | Field label, not an occupancy claim |
| Property Description | Work around a weak street-name match | Subdivision, lot, or section detail |
Key distinction. A roll is a dated official list; a parcel is mapped land; an index points to a record that may require a separate image or copy.
St. Tammany Parish GIS Turns an Address Into Record Numbers
The St. Tammany GeoPortal is the bridge from place to file. Its layer list includes parcels, address points, streets, subdivisions, tax districts, section-township-range, and aerial imagery. Identify a parcel, save the assessment number and subdivision or lot, and then open the Assessor result and Clerk land index. The map supports spatial research, but a nearby parcel is not proof of a household or personal relationship.
The official GeoPortal guide describes Search By, Identify, buffer, measure, print, results, More/Less, and CSV export controls. Layer availability and accuracy can change. Save the map date and verify any boundary question against a recorded plat.
View the parish GIS parcel viewer.
The viewer supplies the parcel identifiers that make the next assessment or deed search precise.
St. Tammany Parish Voter Searches Separate Name and Address Routes
The Louisiana Secretary of State voter portal offers search by voter, parish, and address. Name search asks for first name, last name, and either ZIP or birth month and year. Address search asks for ZIP, address, apartment or lot, and city. These screens can confirm a registration or precinct lead, subject to current results and legal protections, but they are not a list of every person at a home.
St. Tammany Registrar offices in Covington and Slidell can clarify status, precinct, district, and address changes. The Registrar posted polling changes in January 2026 for several precincts and a new 909A split, so current portal data should control instead of an old polling-place note. Protected voter fields include sensitive identifiers and Address Confidentiality Program data.
Current Sources in the St. Tammany Parish Residents Directory
No present-day source covers all residents. Use the layer that fits the fact to be checked, and label the result accurately. Ownership, voter registration, court participation, custody, and business agency are different relationships. The table keeps those boundaries visible.
| Resident-linked source | Relationship shown | Official keeper | Access route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assessment roll | Owner or entity tied to a parcel | Parish Assessor | Free assessment portal and office |
| Voter portal and list product | Registered voter and released status fields | Secretary of State and Registrar | Free lookup; defined lists are paid |
| Land index | Parties to deeds, liens, maps, and related acts | Clerk Land Records | Cott or legacy subscription, counter, and forms |
| Court index | Party connected to a public case | Clerk and re:SearchLA | Account portal, counter, and copy request |
| Historical directory catalog | Dated household or business entry | St. Tammany Parish Library | Catalog, branch use, and genealogy help |
A one-person search works best when candidates are compared in a dated table. The St. Tammany Parish resident lookup process verifies a name without merging unrelated people.
Historical St. Tammany Parish Resident Directory Shelves
St. Tammany Parish Library catalogs separate Polk runs for Covington, Covington and Mandeville, Slidell, parish-wide coverage, and a 1997 New Orleans suburban regional volume. Surfaced catalog years include Covington volumes from 1979 through 1993, Slidell volumes from 1984 through 2003, Covington-Mandeville volumes from 2000 through 2003, and parish-wide volumes from 2004 through 2021. A missing catalog year should be treated as a question for the genealogy desk, not proof that no volume was published.
A city directory entry is a dated snapshot that may contain a name, spouse or householder mark, occupation, telephone number, and street address. Publisher abbreviations and publication lag matter. The complete shelf and reading method appear in the St. Tammany Parish city directory.
St. Tammany Parish Clerk Searches Follow the Record Type
The Clerk is not one all-purpose name database. Land Records covers acts of sale, mortgages, judgments of possession, liens, cancellations, maps, surveys, and name changes. Civil and Criminal departments handle case records. Personal Document Services handles St. Tammany marriage copies and selected Louisiana birth and death certificates under eligibility rules. Archives supplies older series through separate forms and date windows.
For land, the current copy route covers 1918 forward, while earlier requests go to Archives. The online legacy membership information lists conveyance and mortgage data from July 1, 1961, images from 1977, and maps from 1810, but the archival holdings reach farther back. A portal date window never cancels the counter or archival route.
Open the official Clerk of Court departments page.
The department list helps route a deed, case, marriage, succession, or archive question to the right desk.
The St. Tammany Parish Land Portal Changed in 2026
Cott Record Hub went live on July 27, 2026, while the Clerk kept the legacy land site available during a transition stated to run through December 31, 2026. The current Clerk notice lists Cott subscriptions at $25 daily or $50 for 30 days. Older portal pages show different coverage and fee terms, including a 2.75 percent card-processing fee effective in 2026. Date-label the interface and fee source before relying on either.
This transition explains why an older residents directory tutorial may open a different screen. Preserve the instrument number, parties, recording date, book and page or image identifier, legal description, and purchase or certification status. For a legal proof need, obtain the proper certified copy rather than relying on a screen capture.
See the legacy land records login retained during the transition.
The older login is useful context, but the Clerk homepage should be checked for the active route and current terms.
Read a St. Tammany Parish Court Result as a Case
Louisiana re:SearchLA organizes public court research around Cases, Filings, and Hearings. Its official guide describes keyword search, filters, a Case Details screen, participants, attorneys, judicial officers when available, filings, hearings, export, saved searches, alerts, and document purchase. Capture the case number, jurisdiction, type, party role, filing dates, hearings, and disposition rather than treating a shared name as identity proof.
The live portal required access during the research inspection, and the Clerk warned that sealed cases and documents could be unavailable online because of technical issues. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, adoption, and other restricted records remain subject to law and court orders. A portal no-match describes the search conditions, not a person’s complete history.
Use the court screen to locate a case identifier, then confirm access and copies with the Clerk custodian.
St. Tammany Parish Boundaries Change Which Office Holds a File
The official state profile lists Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell as cities; Abita Springs, Madisonville, and Pearl River as towns; Folsom and Sun as villages; Eden Isle and Lacombe as census-designated places; and Bush and Goodbee as unincorporated communities. Postal labels, municipal limits, wards, precincts, and parish boundaries do not collapse into one geography.
A Slidell address may touch Slidell City Court, the 22nd Judicial District Court, the parish Clerk, the Sheriff, and city records. A Covington or Mandeville police or mayor’s-court file belongs with that municipality. Start with the legal place and record type, then use the postal ZIP only as a disambiguator. Historical researchers should also account for territory lost when Washington and Tangipahoa Parishes were created.
Request Missing St. Tammany Parish Resident Records Narrowly
Louisiana Public Records Law, La. R.S. 44:1 et seq., covers public records subject to specific exceptions. St. Tammany Parish Government accepts requests by email at prr@stpgov.org, fax at 985-867-5124, or mail at P.O. Box 628, Covington, Louisiana 70434. Its form lets a requester choose inspection or copies and route the request among departments.
Name an existing file, record type, department, date range, street or parcel, and known case, permit, or instrument number. Ask to inspect first when a collection may be large. Keep the acknowledgment, estimate, denial, exemption citation, and dates. Clerk court, land, archive, and vital records use their own department forms, while Covington and Mandeville maintain separate municipal custodian routes.
Keep St. Tammany Parish Resident Research Lawful and Dated
A sound research log separates source, inspection date, displayed name, record date, address type, jurisdiction, identifier, what the record proves, and the next verification. Two independent attributes are the minimum for a meaningful match. An assessment number paired with a Clerk instrument is stronger than a common name; a directory address paired with a census year is stronger than either alone.
Lawful personal use. Do not publish protected fields or use public records to stalk, harass, threaten, or expose an Address Confidentiality Program participant.
Commercial people-finder categories can be stale, duplicated, and detached from a custodian’s context. Official records can also contain errors, but they identify the keeper, date, legal limits, and correction path. The St. Tammany Parish residents directory is most useful as a route to those primary sources, followed by direct verification.
